Clean Water

We have built an excellent reputation as a design & build clean water contractor in London and the South East.

Carrying out term contracts and individual projects for Thames Water, where we are an appointed AMP7 area-wide capital delivery contractor, for Affinity Water, South East Water, Southern Water, Thames Tideway Tunnel, Crossrail, British Nuclear Fuels, as well as for several blue-chip developers and private clients.

We provide a comprehensive range of services that span everything from network design and mains laying through to pressure management schemes and private network installation. We also provide associated civil engineering workstraffic management services which help to minimise disruption. We can also offer this service as part of a multi-utility service offering.

As a team, we are focused on helping our utility customers deliver an excellent customer service and on having a positive impact on their C-MeX score. Our highly trained staff deliver through good customer interaction, effective backlog management, maintaining high quality standards and minimising disruptions.

Every member of the team has a National Water Hygiene card and water-specific safety qualifications, and we employ specialist in-house pressure testing and disinfection teams. Our business has also achieved accreditation to the Water Industry Registration Scheme (WIRS), the Lloyd’s Register operating on behalf of Water UK and the water utilities. This accreditation demonstrates our competence to undertake the installation of water infrastructure and establishes us as part of a select group of registered water service providers.

WASTE WATER

Our reputation as an outstanding wastewater contractor in the South East has attracted clients that include major utilities and private clients.

We are an appointed AMP7 area-wide capital delivery contractor to Thames Water, the UK’s largest water and waste-water supplier with 68,000 km of sewer network, and we have worked with the business for more than 20 years. Through one of our JV operations we are the appointed AMP7 area-wide waste-water maintenance and repair contractor for Southern Water.

Working on both term contracts and individual projects, our team is focused on delivering a quality service whether on our customers’ properties or off site – for our utility clients, we recognise the positive impact we can have on their C-MeX evaluation. Safety is key on all projects and our team have a minimum of EUSR Safety Passports and Confined Space accreditations.

Key clients & projects

During AMP6 and extended throughout AMP7, our JV Company, Cappagh Browne Utilities, has secured the React and Maintain Operational Partner contract for Southern Water’s sewerage network. The contract covers the provision of sewerage network maintenance services across Southern Water’s entire region – Sussex, Kent, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

We are an appointed AMP7 area-wide capital delivery infrastructure contractor to Thames Water. The urban locations mean we often have to deploy complex civil engineering solutions to minimise disruption and to reach very deep and usually inaccessible areas of the network. These solutions included excavating shafts, tunnelling and opencut solutions to carry out rehabilitation, renewal or new installation.

NON-INFRASTRUCTURE

Our non-infrastructure business is known for delivering a full suite of clean and wastewater services that includes MEICA design and build, pumping station construction and maintenance, UV disinfection, network repairs and SEMD works. We offer a turnkey service on capital delivery and maintenance projects up to £10m in value. We employ off-site manufacturing techniques wherever possible.

We manage all aspects of reservoir maintenance and repair. This spans everything from water tower re-lining, storm tank construction, sampling improvements and revetment works through to borehole modifications, alarm ducting and raw water tunnel inspection.

Our team is made up of specialists across the non-infrastructure field, and all are highly experienced and qualified.

Key clients & projects

Through our JV company Enisca Browne we were awarded the Medium and Minor treatment framework contracts for South East Water at the start of AMP 6. These were extended into AMP7 after a very successful delivery period.

Browne are also a reservoir and water tower specialist, becoming one of the leading repair and maintenance contractors for reservoirs in the South East. We’ve been working with Thames Water, the largest water and waste company in the UK, since 1992 and have been awarded the Service Reservoir Repairs Framework Agreement four times (the current agreement runs until 2025). For South East Water, we were awarded the Reservoir and Water Tower Repairs and Maintenance agreement in 2013, covering their large network in Kent, Sussex and Hampshire. For Southern Water we operate the reservoir maintenance framework agreement contractor which runs until at least 2023.

INFRASTRUCTURE

Our Infrastructure teams have delivered a wide range of major projects in the clean and wastewater fields for utilities and large businesses.

To minimise disruption to our customers and the public, we are committed to using no-dig techniques wherever possible and we use First Time Reinstatement in virtually every case.

On the clean water side, we install both large and small diameter pipes using insertion, pipebursting, directional drilling techniques and open-cut main laying. The environment could be anywhere from open country to public highways or within treatment works. We also put our tunnelling and shaft sinking skills to work in areas such as online and off-line replacement, under track crossings and road crossings. The pipe materials we work with include concrete, clay, ductile iron, coated steel and polythene, and utilise both electrofusion and butt fusion.

On our wastewater projects we install and repair pipework in open-cut trenches and also using headings, mechanised pipejack and augerbore techniques. We construct large diameter tank sewers (900 to 1800) for flood alleviation, with associated RC chambers, employing a range of pumping and dewatering approaches to lower the water table.

Key clients & projects

Our Infrastructure expertise is underscored by our recent involvement with the Thames Water on Capital Delivery. We are delivering a package of works from tranches 0 of the mains renewal programme that includes 43km of mains renewal and is part of a 5-year programme of rehabilitation and renewal works.

DEVELOPER SERVICES

Recognising that developers across the South East can struggle to source a timely and consistent water and wastewater connections service, we set up our Developer Services team in 2010.

Today, this dedicated part of our business delivers a first-class end-to-end service, helping clients navigate the planning and street works environment and ensuring critical path connections happen on time and without the usual administrative headaches.

Thanks to our reputation for quality, we have framework agreements in place with blue chip clients, large contractors, housebuilders and developers alike. Whatever the project, all of our people from operatives to supervisors and managers are fully accredited, and works are carried out to ‘Adoptable Standards’. Since 2010 we have completed hundreds of connection projects, ranging from £5k to £500k, and our revenue has grown to around £15m annually.
