skillsLondon 2017

Skills London is the UK's biggest jobs and careers event for young people. Focusing on young people aged 15-24 this year’s event attracted more than 30,000 individuals across two days.

For ten years it has reached out and inspired London’s young people by showcasing opportunities including apprenticeships, education, training, employment, internships and other options.

This year we took our place at ExCeL London, to be to part of this inspirational event. Leading the team were Barry Jones, Head of Operations and Jane Shelvey, Head of HR assisted by Roz Steele, Training Co-Ordinator and Helen McIntyre, Business Development. There was also a guest appearance from Jeremy Browne on the Saturday!

We wanted to make our stand as practical and fun as possible so we had a number of field devices  including an electronic cable detector (better known as a CAT and Genny) to enable safe excavation to hand to bring to life some of what our operational staff do in the field. We also had an electro-fusion kit set up, with Barry getting the visitors involved in fusing their own joints on plastic pipework. Free chocolate also helped attract some sweet toothed candidates to our stand!

Barry said of the event ‘It was such a worthwhile event to attend. It was great to engage with these young people and be able to explain and show what we do. Hopefully we will see some of these faces again as part of our workforce”

Jane said “It was so pleasing to see so many of these children taking their future seriously. They could be the future of the company!”

Thank you to all the visitors who paid us a visit and a big thanks to our team!
