September 23, 2016
J Browne was delighted to play a significant part in the recent Thames Water Safety Summit held at Ascot Racecourse on 23rd September 2016. It involved all Thames Water’s main waste network and treatment partners both Tier 1 and 2 getting together to devote a full day to improving health, safety and well-being of all our people on this work. We deliver this work through our Cappagh Browne joint venture.
Many of Thames Water’s senior management including Managing Director of Waste Water, Lawrence Gosden and Head of Safety Karl Simons, were in attendance as well as owners and senior management of their supply chain partners.
We contributed to the day by organising a breakout session with actors performing a street theatre scene based around visible leadership on a typical street works site. The sketch demonstrated the opportunity that senior managers and leaders can make in (both in a positive and negative way) to influence the safety environment on our sites. As well as being a lot of fun for the audience who could become ‘armchair directors’ and direct how the various characters behaved, we think it got the message across in a clear and thoughtful way. It was well attended with over 150 people attending the 3 individual sessions and the feedback from the attendees was excellent.
Many thanks to our actors, Terry and his merry men for performing so well on the day and to Head of SHEQ Shaun Holden for helping organise the day.
