October 30, 2015
J Browne continued its safety stand down programme with 2 morning sessions at Theobald’s Park, Enfield in October 2015. Over 250 of our staff attended including all our Head Office and depot staff as well as the operational teams.
The sessions were interactive and based on some key observations from our on-going ‘10@10’ hazard spotting initiative. Uniquely it allowed our staff to give their opinion anonymously using keypads which gave immediate results displayed on the big screen. The questions covered a number of safety themes including wearing of safety glasses, confined space working, service avoidance as well as asking some fundamental questions on the general safety culture of the business. We also used a number of group activities to explore each area and come up with solutions to improve site safety. The SHEQ team is currently collating the feedback and will be capturing this in a ‘You said, we did’ series of actions.
The rest of the session was similarly interactive with MD Paul McMahon giving a general update on what is coming up for the business. MGF gave a practical demonstration of some of their new generation of light weight shoring and safe access systems and finally everybody went home with a winter pack consisting of an ice scraper, thermos mug, a hard hat liner and some information on winter driving.
Feedback from the event has been excellent and letting everybody have their say ensured the engagement levels were good and in turn gave us some excellent data which we can use to improve site conditions. A big thanks to our SHEQ manager Liam May for delivering this event so successfully; it was a credit to Liam and his team.
