J Browne laid 530m of 450 diameter ductile full wrapped with a 55% overlap to all pipework and associated fittings between Caledonian Road & York Way. We connected to a 30” main with an under pressure Tee off Caledonian Road which offered a saving to the tendered method of Line stops for the client, in addition to the connection works off the main we also undertook the repair works on a leaking lead run joint by installing an encapsulating repair collar, which was made as a bespoke piece to suit the engineering requirements.
The project design included the installation of DMA flowmeter and district meter which included a bypass arranged around each. These had to be installed in areas with a vast amount of existing utilities and limited working space, with design proposals at times being issue by J.Browne project engineering team to the client to overcome construction build issues and avert delays to the programme and notice extensions.
Three bespoke chambers were also constructed around the meters and non-return valve using engineering brick, the chambers build from a depth of over two metres with sufficient space for man entry to maintain, will offer longevity and maintenance free additional cost for the client over and exceeding the life of polymer type produce.
Working with three specialist teams to construct the project safely within a tight deadline for delivery, commissioning and handover to the client, J.Browne project team working closely with the local streetworks departments of both the London Boroughs of Camden and Islington, and local residents and schools proceeded the build of the project working over three phases at one stage.
Variations to the contract award included a Fabricated Special Bend and pipe section required for the final connection to the developer installed main, due to the different alignments and existing utility constraints in joining the pipe under normal conditions.
As a general overview the project has been delivered without any reported incidents in health and safety or damage to existing utilities, which is a credit to the commitment and drive of all the personnel deployed to build the project, all with a quest to deliver engineering betterment safely as a team for handover completion to the client.
