We have been working in schools for a number of years for various clients but primarily local authorities. We have constructed numerous playgrounds, sports fields, car parks, roads and footways within school boundaries, during and outside of term time. We have a detailed understanding of the sensitivities of working in the school environment.
We have carried out a number of school projects for the London Borough of Redbridge, generally during the Easter and Summer holiday breaks. We have routinely worked at over 30 of the Borough’s schools carrying out a vast array of civil engineering activities ranging from small minor repair works to fullscale resurfacing projects.
In 2007, we completed a £2m Government funded project for the London Borough of Haringey which involved works being carried out at 17 primary schools across the Borough. We constructed new multi-use sports and games areas with special sports surfacing and improved existing playgrounds with new fixed play equipment.
At St Marylebone Church of England School, situated in a superb location behind the magnificent St Marylebone’s Church, off Marylebone High Street in London, we carried out soft and hard landscaping works for Mansell (Special Projects), which included the re-use of salvaged Yorkstone.
We have also on occasion carried out utility contracts within school grounds such as the project at Ravensbourne School, Bromley for Thames Water which involved the diversion of an existing 800mm diameter water main to accommodate a new school building.
In the health sector, we have undertaken significant projects at North Middlesex Hospital in North London and at Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford, Essex.
At North Middlesex Hospital, we undertook an enabling works package which included construction of 22 temporary car parks, construction of a series of bus ‘gateways’, preparation for a new canteen, reinforced concrete bases to carry oxygen cylinders, diversion and installation of gas mains, water mains, electrical cabling and sewers.
At Broomfield Hospital, we carried out bulk excavation works involving the removal of 70,000m3 of clay with the majority of the soil being used in the construction of a local golf course and works to Grately Racecourse, the construction of a temporary car park and a complex drainage package including 93 manholes, 1000m of foul and storm sewers up to 750mm diameter and 130m of 300mm diameter land drains.
